Milky Way Photography at Almsee: A Unique Nature Workshop

June 20, 2026 - June 21, 2026

4 to 6 Participants

Experience the magic of the Milky Way rising above the tranquil waters of Almsee. Surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Salzkammergut, you’ll learn how to confidently capture the night sky — even if you’ve never photographed stars before.

This workshop is designed primarily for photographers who want to start with astrophotography or finally feel confident shooting in the dark. At the same time, advanced photographers are warmly welcome and will benefit from refined composition guidance, workflow optimization, and creative techniques.

What to expect?

Almsee offers one of Austria’s most stunning natural settings for Milky Way photography. On clear nights, the galactic core rises above the mountains and reflects in the calm lake surface — creating a powerful composition that combines landscape and cosmos.

During this intensive weekend workshop, you will learn:

  • How to set up and operate your camera confidently in low-light conditions

  • The fundamentals of exposure, ISO, aperture, and shutter speed for astrophotography

  • How to focus precisely in darkness

  • How to compose compelling Milky Way images

  • Techniques for clean, sharp long exposures

  • Practical tips for planning and predicting Milky Way alignment

  • Optional advanced approaches for experienced participants

The focus is on clear, understandable explanations and hands-on practice. You won’t just watch — you’ll actively shoot, experiment, and receive direct feedback.

Who is This Workshop for?

  • Photographers new to Milky Way or night photography

  • Landscape photographers wanting to expand into astrophotography

  • Hobby photographers who struggle with camera settings at night

  • Anyone wanting structured guidance instead of trial-and-error

No prior astrophotography experience is required.
You should be comfortable using manual camera settings and prepared to spend several hours outdoors at night, possibly until sunrise.

Because of the small group size (4–6 participants), you’ll receive individual coaching and personalized support throughout the workshop.

With no stress or time pressure, you can fully focus on photography. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings and explore new subjects. The intimate atmosphere ensures a relaxed and unforgettable experience.

Christoph will be there to assist you with any questions or challenges, allowing you to focus entirely on photography. If Milky Way photography is not possible due to bad weather, an alternative date will be arranged.

Group Size

The group size is limited to 4 to 6 participants. Small groups are intentionally chosen to ensure a friendly and flexible atmosphere. This allows for adjustments based on weather and more time to spend at each photo spot.
